RUSSIAN POST IS HEADING FOR BANKRUPTCY
The Treasury, which conducted the audit of the Russian Post Corporation, reported on its preliminary results. It is reported that in 2022 the organization lost about 24.5 billion rubles. The verification data were presented during a meeting that took place in the State Duma on November 30.

On October 6, the Board of Directors initiated an independent audit necessary to determine the amount of state support for Russian Post. It was assumed that the company would need additional capitalization in the amount of about 117 billion rubles. According to RBC, the debt, which by the beginning of 2023 amounted to more than 153.5 billion, could be refinanced at the expense of the National Welfare Fund (at 3.5%).

Experts call ineffective management decisions the reason for such large losses. Their consequence was 10.2 billion, which was not received due to a violation of the sales plan. The corporation spent another 12 billion dollars on the management of property that is not leased and is not actually used.

Since 2021, Russian Post has leased an office complex with an area of 35 thousand square meters (near the CSKA metro station). The annual rental cost is about 1 billion rubles. At the same time, the old premises of the head office with an area of 39 thousand square meters, located on the Warsaw highway, remains in a state of downtime.

According to Vedomosti, additional reasons for the loss of Mail were problems with the operation of IT systems. A number of projects, including the installation of postamates, turned out to be unprofitable. The salary fund of the management staff increased by 13%. The growth in the subsidiaries of the corporation amounted to 186%. At the same time, some of the management functions are duplicated.

As a result of the audit, it turned out that the Post Office suffered a loss from participation in the activities of National Logistics Technologies (JSC). 10 logistics centers were built at the company's expense. The cost of investments in construction amounted to 21.9 billion.

The financial problems of the Russian Post are well known. In 2014, the organization ceased to be funded from the budget of the Russian Federation. In 2019, the corporation changed its legal status, turning from a state unitary enterprise into a joint-stock company. At the same time, the organization continues to be shaken by reputational scandals.

The former head of the post office, Dmitry Strashnov, became famous for assigning himself bonuses of 95.4 million. Another head of the company, Nikolai Podguzov– acquired a capital property worth 1 billion rubles. In 2020, Sergei Yemelchenkov was prosecuted, whose actions (abuse of authority) caused the company 67 million in damage.
