IN THE USA, THE NUMBER OF BANKRUPTCIES OF LARGE COMPANIES REACHED ITS HIGHEST LEVEL IN 16 YEARS
American businesses have faced a new wave of financial insolvency. In January-June 2026, 372 large companies filed for bankruptcy, the highest number in the first half of the year since 2010.
The figure has been increasing for four consecutive years, if we compare the first six months of each year. The number of companies that have filed for bankruptcy since the beginning of 2026 is already higher than the total for the entire year of 2022, when 317 companies declared insolvency. The industry has become the leader in terms of the number of troubled companies: since January, 50 industry-specific companies have filed for bankruptcy. The third place is occupied by healthcare, where 26 organizations have declared financial insolvency.
The ongoing increase in bankruptcies indicates the ongoing pressure on the U.S. corporate sector.
