The use of traffic cameras in Russia may be limited
The work on a draft law that will clearly regulate the possibilities of installation traffic cameras is underway in the lower house of Parliament.  The document was prepared by the relevant committee on transport - for the first time, specific reasons for installing cameras on Russian roads will appear in it.

In addition, drivers will have more rights to challenge fines issued as a result of using such fixation tools.

The change is supposed to be made to the law “On highways and road activities”, where a whole chapter dedicated to cameras will appear.

The normative act will contain a specific list of cases in which it will be possible to install the means of fixing violations. These include pedestrian crossings, intersections, dedicated lanes, as well as places for roadworks. In addition, according to the results of the security audit, cameras can be installed in other places.

The changes will also affect mobile means of fixation, which can only be installed for a clearly defined period of time, and their movement relative to the initially set coordinates will be prohibited.

It is assumed that the bill will come into effect from the spring of next year, and all cameras already placed on Russian roads will have to be tested for the validity of their location during the year. In case of non-compliance with the norms, the means of fixation will be dismantled, Kommersant reports.
