THE PRICES OF INSURANCE POLICIES AND VEHICLE TAX MAY BE DECREASED IN THE EVENT OF VOLUNTARY MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION

The corresponding initiative was announced by the head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Russian Federation Mikhail Chernikov. He noted that drivers should be encouraged to voluntarily undergo technical checks.

The State Traffic Inspectorate also recalled that they propose to cancel the mandatory inspection for motorcycles and passenger cars belonging to individuals.

Chernikov stressed out that in a number of Russian regions, settlements are not provided with technical inspection points. What is more, the tariffs for the service have a negative impact on the development of the market.

The head of the traffic police recalled that according to the traffic rules, the driver should not use a technically faulty car, and therefore he is obliged to check it before leaving and ensure serviceability. However, it is worth noting that according to the terms of the 1968 Vienna Convention, technical inspection is mandatory for cargo vehicles from 3.5 tons and buses.

We should recall that from August 22, 2021, a new rule will come into effect, according to which a vehicle inspection is no longer required to obtain a CMTPL policy.
