The day before, the deputy of the lower house of parliament Sultan Khamzaev voiced the idea of introduction a legislative ban on placing commercial signs in foreign languages on the streets of Russian cities. The official noted that the country has one state language, and signs in other languages do not always convey the information necessary for Russian citizens.
A corresponding letter with a proposal to change the current legislation has already been sent to the head of the FAS.
It notes that a fairly large number of signs in large cities are in foreign languages. Given the fact that the state language in the country is Russian, it is also used in business negotiations, when interacting with customers and in other cases.
According to Khamzaev, the presence of signs in other languages may not always be informative for Russians, in addition, this fact levels out the importance of the state language, RT reports, referring to the letter from an official.
The MP proposes to consider the issue of obliging both Russian and foreign companies to use Russian language when making commercial signs. What is more, the parliamentarian proposes to transliterate the names of already existing brands.
