REPRESENTATIVES OF THE FEDERATION COUNCIL SPEAKED ABOUT THE ELIMINATION OF THE CONSUMER BASKET
The draft order to abolish the consumer basket was published on April 23, simultaneously with the order to cancel the quarterly revision of the living wage. Both documents, according to a representative of the Federation Council, are aimed at fulfilling the norms of the federal law which is in effect from January 1, 2021.
The Federal Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation", in particular, establishes a new methodology for calculating the minimum wage - previously it depended on the cost of the consumer basket.
According to the new standards, the minimum wage is 42% of the median wage in the country - for 2021 its amount is 12,792 rubles.
"The new method is more progressive, it excludes manipulations with the cost of the consumer basket by including in it cheap goods or services that may not be used," the Vice-Rector of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Alexander Safonov commented on the situation to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Let us recall that, according to the law, the consumer basket includes a minimum set of food products, goods and services “necessary to preserve human health and ensure his (her) life” and does not reflect the real level of consumption.
