One-room apartments and studios were proposed to be excluded from the preferential mortgage program
The corresponding statement was made by the auditor of the Accounting Chamber Natalia Trunova, motivating such a decision by the fact that small-sized apartments create an unfavorable situation in the housing market.

Trunova sees the negative color in the fact that by stimulating the demand of citizens for one-room apartments and studios, the state creates a situation where people will buy housing that is uncomfortable for living, and subsequently also lose the opportunity to improve living conditions.

However, the representative of the Accounting Chamber did not justify how the purchasers of such apartments can exclude the improvement of housing conditions in the future. Therefore, this thesis can be called no less than controversial.

Reasoning in a longer-term time perspective, it turns out that by reducing the demand for studios by excluding them from preferential loan programs, the state risks encouraging developers to reduce the volume of their supply on the market.

It is possible to negatively evaluate Trunova's proposal in this context, since she does not take into account that not all families in Russia have children. And for two people, living in a one-room apartment or studio is quite comfortable, at least for a certain period of time. Later, such a family can sell their studio and buy a new apartment – a more spacious one.
