MEDVEDEV PROPOSED TO PAY THE UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME TO ALL THE CITIZENS

The former Prime Minister and Chairman of the United Russia party Dmitry Medvedev proposed to re-discuss the topic of the universal basic income for every Russian. In this case, this is the minimum amount that the state will be able to pay to citizens, regardless of their type of activity and economic situation.

Medvedev recalled that a similar payment model operates in other countries. Moreover, against the backdrop of a pandemic and for the sake of maintaining social stability, it is extremely important to provide support to the citizens.

Dmitry Medvedev emphasized that the initiative needed to be worked out, primarily from an economic point of view.

It is worth noting that many countries have been pondering this idea since the 1960s - it is assumed that thanks to the guaranteed payments it is possible to solve the problem of poverty and reduce the crime rate. However, there is no reliable data to support this fact. Moreover, the World Bank considers this method to be unsuccessful in the fight against poverty.
