HOURLY MINIMUM WAGE MIGHT BE INTRODUCED IN RUSSIA

The corresponding initiative came from the government. It is assumed that its discussion will take place during the preparation of the General Agreement between the all-Russian associations of trade unions, employers and the Council of Ministers for 2021-2023.

According to Izvestia newspaper, the draft of the hourly minimum wage is currently being discussed - by the end of October, the document should be ready. First of all, the innovation is necessary for the employees working on the short-term contracts and in the format of hourly wages.

It is noted that the hourly minimum wage should not reduce the workers' guarantees, but supplement them.

Not all the experts support the initiative, since the problems arise when calculating the hourly minimum wage. The fact is that if we deduce this figure from the usual minimum wage, you get a modest amount of 69 rubles (in terms of working hours in September). If we put a more acceptable figure, about 200 rubles, then the discrimination against people working for the usual monthly minimum wage will take place.

It is also necessary to reconsider the hourly minimum wage for night work and activities in difficult conditions. It should be noted that an hourly minimum wage exists in many developed countries. The maximum rates apply in Belgium, Luxembourg and Denmark – around 40-45 euro.
