GENNADY ONISHCHENKO PROPOSED TO SHORTEN WINTER HOLIDAYS
The State Duma spokesman and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko stated that long winter holidays should be shortened. Excessive workload of ambulance was indicated as the main reason.
Onishchenko told RIA Novosti that the ambulance was traditionally overloaded in the first ten days of January. At this time, numerous poisonings with alcohol surrogates, alcohol overdose, injuries due to being in a state of alcoholic intoxication are recorded. And if previously, the statistics were a little diluted by the fact that many residents of large cities went on vacation to other countries, this year there will be no chance for it.
Onishchenko also added that long holidays negatively affect the economy.
The parliamentarian recalled that people work after the New Year all over the world, while the Russians have a rest for 10 more days. At the same time, Onishchenko believes that there were no such long days off before - they appeared in the 90s. At that time, the residents of the country did not have salaries, but were paid off by "days off". Now such a practice does not make sense.
This time, Russians have a New Year rest from 1 to 10 January. December 31 is officially recognized as a working day, but it will be a day off in some of the regions - Crimea, Tatarstan, Stavropol Territory, as well as in Kursk, Belgorod and Vladimir regions.
