CRIMINAL CASES OVER NON-PAYMENT OF ALIMONY WILL BE INITIATED MORE OFTEN
The draft law toughening the liability for non-payment of alimony received approval from the Government commission. If an individual has a significant debt, but pays the minimum amount, this will no longer protect him from punishment.

As reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the Russian Bar Association, before the Federal Bailiffs Service could not initiate a criminal case against the alimony debtor, if he made at least some payments. For example, in the Altai Territory, the representatives of the law enforcement agencies did not initiate a criminal case against a person with a debt of about 300 thousand rubles, as he he paid1,500 rubles.

Thousands of debtors avoid criminal cases every year due to insignificant payments.

It was noted that in 2018 alone, more than 8,000 criminal cases over non-payment of alimony for the maintenance of disabled parents and children were not initiated. If the new draft law is approved, the non-payers will no longer be able to avoid responsibility by paying minimum amounts.

Non-payment of alimony can now lead to administrative liability and in case of a repeated action - to a criminal one.
