ALCOHOL INTERLOCKS WILL BE INSTALLED IN CARS OF DRUNK DRIVERS
At the initiative of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, soon the drivers detained for drunk driving will be obliged to have alcohol interlocks in their cars. It is assumed that the implementation will be forced and will be carried out at the expense of the offender.

As reported by Interfax, the innovation may affect everyone who has ever been detained for drunk driving. Violators will be added into a special information base, after which all cars they drive will be obliged to be equipped with alcohol interlocks.

At the moment, the departments are considering the possibility of changing the traffic rules.

By the end of 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade plans to standardize and refine the procedure for introducing alcohol interlocks. It is known that the device will be connected to the GLONASS system - with its help, the information about the driver will be transmitted. It will also track whether the lock is working.

The authorities plan to introduce Russian-made alcohol interlocks - they, unlike imported devices, are able to identify the driver. It is noted that a similar technology exists in the United States - before driving, a person must breathe into the test tube. If no alcohol is detected, the vehicle is ready for driving. However, another person can ‘breathe’ as well, which is why in Russia, they want to refine this moment and personalize the identity.

Alcolocks may appear in carsharing cars as well.

This is necessary to assess whether the driver is ready and eligible to drive. In addition to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, a number of technology companies, developing programs and modules, are involved in the project.
