US NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION ACCUSED OF BANKRUPTCY FRAUD
Current Senate Majority Leader Charles Ellis Schumer has called on the Justice Department to investigate the actions of the National Rifle Association (NRA), given that the organization was suspected of bankruptcy fraud. The speech of the 70-year-old American politician is about the organization's attempt to hide from the demands that the New York State Attorney's Office presented to it.
Earlier, Rusbankrot published a material about the organization's attempt to go bankrupt in Texas, having changed its location amid a conflict with the leadership of the New York State Attorney's Office, which accused the NRA of a tax fraud. As a result, the bankruptcy petition of the public organization failed in court.
The representatives of the American Themis concluded in May this year that the organization’s attempt to file for bankruptcy was an attempt of avoiding court litigation in the case of the dissolution of the organization.
Chuck Schumer accuses the organization of continuing to spend millions of dollars lobbying for its interests by means of opposing new initiatives to tighten the US legislation on arms trafficking. In particular, we are talking about a bill providing for a general verification of the biography of weapons buyers, as well as other measures to track the firearms transactions.
The US Department of Justice is trying to limit the possibilities for the circulation of improvised firearms found in the course of criminal investigations. The ‘ghost weapon’, as it is often called in the states, is assembled from prepared kits by buyers whose biography is not verified. And although the former criminals are not allowed to acquire it, such a weapon easily falls into their hands.
Schumer called the NRA's actions a blatant hypocrisy, as it spends millions on advertisements calling to stop the universal background checks.
According to him, filing a bankruptcy petition in such a situation is nothing more than a fraud with the judicial system and the US laws.
