THE OLDEST CINEMA IN SMOLENSK WILL FINALLY BE DIVIDED BETWEEN CREDITORS
The October cinema, built in Smolensk in the 1930s, is planned to be divided among creditors. The organization managing the property (JSC) is in a state of bankruptcy initiated by the tax service. In addition, the institution owes to the pension fund, the Federal Social Insurance Fund and the Social Insurance Fund.

The tax authorities filed for bankruptcy of the cinema in May 2021. They demanded 476,451.87 rubles from the organization. After some time, the arbitration accepted the application and gave the case a go (No. A62-3777/2021).

The court sessions were postponed many times. It was only in April 2022 that the arbitration court finally introduced a monitoring procedure in the organization. At this stage, a temporary manager representing the Crimean Union of PAU "Expert" was involved in the work.

The October building, which was once the center of the cultural life of the natives of Smolensk, gradually became dilapidated and became a heavy burden for the city administration (its actual owner). At the same time, according to local media, an attempt to sell the building for 75.1 million, undertaken in 2015, was unsuccessful.

The farm seemed too troublesome to potential investors. Especially when you consider that the object has a protected status and the current legislation simply does not allow it to be demolished.

What creditors will do with the building in the end is not yet clear. According to local media, the organization's board of directors changed in September 2022. It included city officials responsible for municipal property and culture, a deputy from the United Russia party and several employees. Now there is a trading platform in the cinema. There are almost no chances that bankruptcy will allow the historical monument to return to its former cultural status.
