THE AJAX HANDBALL CLUB FROM COPENHAGEN IS THREATENED WITH BANKRUPTCY

One of the oldest sports organizations in Denmark may be insolvent. If the management of the handball club is unable to find 1.8 million Danish crowns (about €242 thousand) in the next few weeks, the organization may be declared bankrupt.

The Ajax Copenhagen Handball Club has been in existence since 1934. However, in the current situation, there are fears that his men's team will not be able to finish the sports season in the 1st division, which barely had time to start.

It became known that many players have not been paid wages for more than a month. The club did not even have time to issue health insurance for its handball players, despite continued participation in matches.

However, insurance, according to local media, is far from the biggest problem for athletes. According to the chairman of the Management Board Henrik Ritlov, who took over management functions after the resignation of the previous commercial director Daniel Svensson, the cause of the financial crisis was a loan.

The club received 900 thousand Danish crowns as a loan in order to successfully overcome the consequences of the pandemic. However, the tax service had complaints about the activities of the club, she filed for bankruptcy. It is known that the total debt of the organization has reached 1.8 million Danish crowns. If the club is unable to provide financial guarantees for debt repayment by September 20, the bankruptcy case will be launched.

The club's management noted that the players' health was insured for one month. Assistance in this club was provided by the Handball Association, whose head called the lack of insurance unacceptable.

It is planned that the salary debts of the players will also be repaid in the near future. But whether the club will be able to find the financial means to get rid of claims from the tax authorities is an open question.
