RUSSIAN SHRIMP PLANT WAS CLOSED DUE TO THE PANDEMIC

The pandemic forced to close the production, which the company with the self-explanatory name "Russian Shrimp" was conducting in the Kaluga region. According to the website of a company that grows shrimps in our country, the production cycle was disrupted due to the termination of flights. One of the main problems was the lack of planting material imported from abroad. It was simply impossible to buy it in Russia.

According to one of the leaders of the company, Evgeny Khozikov, the activity of the company has already been terminated, and the production workshops have been dismantled. The company's management plans to resume the production after the borders are opened, but the company will not return to Kaluga.

According to Khozikov, it is easier to grow products in Crimea, where the company is already engaged in a project for breeding oysters and mussels.

The company plans to produce its own planting material. It should be the larvae of the Pacific white shrimp, which is called "royal" in Russia.

According to the experts, the company was the first to start the artificial growing of shrimps in Russia. Later in 2018, a similar company (Northern Shrimp) began operating in the Leningrad Region. Similar enterprises were launched in other regions of Russia (Tatarstan, Crimea). The idea of creating an alternative to the import of the frozen products was extremely relevant in the context of the embargo introduced in the country in 2014 against the imports from a number of countries.

The company has invested about 100 million rubles in a shrimp farming project.

The enterprise operated in the village of Kollontai. High technologies used in production in conditions similar to the natural environment made it possible to produce annually more than 20 tons of products supplied to the restaurants of the region. However, due to the pandemic, the restaurant market has also been wind up, so the plans to produce 200 tons per year, as it was announced in case the enterprise reaches the full capacity, have not yet come true.
