RUSSIAN DECATHLON STORES TO START CLOSING FROM APRIL 25
The Decathlon chain, which sells sports and hiking clothing and footwear, has made a decision to temporarily stop its business activities in Russia.  The retailer announced its intentions on March 29, 2022.

The reason is international sanctions, which the company is obliged to strictly comply with.  In addition, the company considered that the conditions that had previously developed for the implementation of deliveries did not allow stores to continue working.  At the same time, the company promised that they would continue paying wages to employees in Russia (there are about 2.5 thousand of them).

We should recall that the chain of Decathlon hypermarkets includes 57 (according to other sources 62) outlets in 25 cities of the country.
Almost all the products sold in stores are the French brand's own production.
In St. Petersburg, retail outlets began to close on April 6th.  The store located in Piterland was the first to stop working.  From April 25, according to the "RBC-Petersburg" media, the outlet in the "RIO" shopping center will stop working.  Five more stores in the city are still working (four points are located in the buildings of the shopping center, and one is on Admiral Tributs Street).  In total, the company provides jobs for 234 employees in the city.

What is more, a retail outlet in Nizhny Novgorod, located in the “Firebird” shopping center, will be closed on April 25.  The company has yet to say how long the closure will last.  At the same time, the second store, located in the “Seventh Heaven” microdistrict, will continue to operate for the time being.  The company's website, through which online trading is conducted, does not stop working.

In Vladimir, where the Decathlon chain was represented by one store in the “Lenta”shopping center, customers received a similar notice of a temporary suspension of work due to the current “external conditions”.  All customers registered in the loyalty program will continue to be served under the guarantee, and if necessary, will be able to return goods or cancel orders.  Subscribers were asked to follow up-to-date information through the company's Internet portal.
It is already known that clients in Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk and Naberezhnye Chelny received similar notifications about the closure of trade pavilions.
In the first two cases, the closing date is April 25, while in Naberezhnye Chelny it should happen a week earlier (April 17).

We should remind our readers that according to the data for 2021, Decathlon made a significant profit in Russia, having increased its revenue by 31% compared to the previous year.  It amounted to 28.5 billion rubles.  The operating structure of the sports retailer in Russia is represented by Oktoblu, whose net profit in 2021 amounted to 1.48 billion rubles, which is 3.6 times more than in 2020.
