RUSSIAN AIR CARRIERS ARE ON THE VERGE OF BANKRUPTCY
The crisis in Russian aviation industry will continue in 2021. The experts come to this conclusion, analyzing the dynamics of the pandemic that influenced the suspension of international flights in 2020. According to a number of analysts, the situation could lead to the bankruptcy of many Russian air carriers. This will happen if the industry finds itself without significant financial support from the state this year.
According to Boris Rybak, CEO of Infomost Company, many players may leave the air transportation market this year. According to Izvestia, citing the words of the expert, this will be inevitably reflected in the pricing policy of the companies until the situation returns to the state of 2019. Boris Rybak notes that the problem is complicated by the declining purchasing power of customers and the inability of the aviation industry entities to achieve payback without resorting to an increase in prices.
Similar forecasts of bankruptcy of several airlines at once, connected with the problem of self-sufficiency, are expressed by other market participants.
Low prices for domestic flights, which were set amid the spread of COVID-19 last year, will gradually begin to return to pre-crisis levels. At the same time, rare international connections with countries that were open for Russian tourists remain in the area of potentially high fares.
According to the experts of the Federal Air Transport Agency, the flow of passengers has decreased by almost 50% over the past year.
The reasons for this decline are not only the restrictions on movement, but also the obtaining income from business. Earlier, the AATO (Association of Air Transport Operators) estimated the industry's losses for the first three quarters of 2020 at 140 billion rubles. The final data on last year's losses have not been published yet. The association assumes that they will amount to about 200 billion rubles.
