RECORD NUMBER OF COMPANIES WAS CLOSED IN RUSSIA OVER THE LAST YEAR.
More than 515.5 thousand companies were closed in Russia last year. At the same time, 214.6 thousand commercial legal entities were registered in the same period. Thus, for the first time, the number of liquidated companies turned out to be 2.4 times higher than the number of newly created ones.

Such data is reported by TASS agency with a reference to analytics provided by the FinExpertiza consulting network.

According to the data obtained, the ratio of open and closed companies turned out to be the highest in 18 years. What is more, according to absolute characteristics, the number of liquidated companies decreased by 18% compared to the previous year. Experts believe that this was influenced by the periods of restrictions on the conduct of accounting and registration activities established by the authorities during the pandemic.

At the same time, registration of new companies also slowed down by 24%.

If we consider absolute rates of the companies that have ceased to exist, the leaders are the metropolitan regions (Moscow and St. Petersburg), as well as the Tula, Pskov regions and the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. In total, every sixth enterprise in Russia was liquidated. Losses were felt by all regions of the country except Buryatia and Chukotka, where the market showed an increase in the number of companies.

Experts say that one of the factors in the reduction of operating companies in Russia is the activity of the Federal Tax Service in combating shadow companies, which has intensified since 2015. Until that time, the number of commercial enterprises in the country was only growing.

After 2015, the number of operating companies in the country began to decline rapidly, having decreased by 1.3 million objects in five years.

Last year, their number decreased by 300 thousand (9.6% in the market as a whole). Now the total number of companies in Russia is about 2.82 million.

Experts note that the exclusion of companies from the register of legal entities occurs, as a rule, on the basis of a decision of the tax authorities. Firms stop submitting annual financial statements and do not perform banking operations, thereby, in fact, terminating business activities.

The President of FinExpertiza Elena Trubnikova believes that the main factor in the decrease in the rate of registration of new enterprises was the coronavirus and the consequences caused by it, which complicated the registration procedures. Experts also believe that the closure of a significant number of companies should be expected in 2021, when state support measures will gradually be reduced, and the previously established moratorium on bankruptcy will not work. This will inevitably lead to a further reduction in private entrepreneurship and an increase in the share of the public sector in the market for goods, jobs and services.
