NORTHERN DVINA MINI-FOOTBALL CLUB CLOSED IN POMORYE
The Northern Dvina football club announced liquidation. The fact that the sports organization could be closed down was assumed back in the spring of 2021 - then its main sponsor stopped cooperation with the organization. The leaders of the club failed to find a new candidate for this role.

Northern Dvina appeared in the Arkhangelsk region three years ago with the participation of regional authorities and representatives of the football federation. The acting head of the region supported the initiative, and his son became the head of the club.

Already in 2019, the representatives of the club managed to conclude an agreement with a sponsor. In the fall of 2019, the owner of the club shared with media his thoughts about good prospects of mini-football in the territory of Pomorie, but this was not implemented in practice.

The athletes played their first match in September 2019.

In 2020, the pandemic led to the early termination of sports events. The club was on the 11th line of the tournament table.

In 2021, law enforcement agencies detained the head of TGK-2, and the head of the Arkhoblenergo company was detained as well. Both managers are suspected of hiding millions of financial assets in order to bring Arkhoblenergo to bankruptcy. After that, the title sponsor (a subsidiary of TGK-2) tore up the agreement with the club.

The news of the closure of Northern Dvina was met on the social network with negative comments.

Many participants in the discussion express the opinion that the club actually parasitized on the money that the residents of the region paid for electricity to the company that sponsored the club.

Local residents believe that the club was just a ‘hobby’ of the former regional governor and closed as soon as he lost administrative support.
