NHL STAR EVANDER KANE FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY

National Hockey League forward, Canadian Evander Kane, was driven to bankruptcy by gambling. The forward said that he filed for bankruptcy after being unable to pay the $ 26.8 million in debt to his 47 creditors. The hockey player may have to miss the upcoming playing season, although he should have announced it before December 24.

In his appeal to the court, Kane stated that he lost more than $ 1.5 million over the past year due to his addiction to gambling. At the same time, the 29-year-old athlete has 7 dependents, all of whom are members of his large family. There is a possibility that the forthcoming termination of the contract will be based on the state of the athlete's health condition. It is reported that it may have staggered due to the first child recently born in Kane’s family.

On February 26, Kane began playing for the San Jose Sharks, moving from Buffalo club.

Previously, he also represented Atlanta, Winnipeg and even managed to play for Dynamo Minsk in the 2012 lockout. However, within the framework of cooperation with the Sharks ,he managed to reach the NHL play-off. A $ 49 million deal, signed with Sharks for seven years, would have allowed the athlete to continue playing comfortably, if there had not been any debts.

It is known that earlier, the lawsuit against the Canadian was filed by the Centennial Bank, to which the forward owed $ 8.3 million. The basis was a loan agreement for $ 3.9 million, concluded in September 2018 for business development. Under the terms of the loan, the sports club had to transfer the necessary amount of money to the bank, deducting it from the athlete's income. However, after the payments had ceased to be transferred to the bank account in the fall of 2019, the credit institution sounded the alarm and went to court.

Kane's current claim states that his assets (including the value of three houses) do not exceed $ 10 million.

It is impossible to pay off debts with a monthly negative income of more than $ 90 thousand. At the same time, among the creditors of the Canadian forward, there are not only banks and individuals, but also the former agency Newport.
