LADA CARS ARE LEAVING THE EUROPEAN MARKET

Lada brand cars have completely left the European Union market. The representatives of the company stated that the last batch of cars was sent to Europe in March, and the new sales were not expected. The general distributor of the Russian automobile concern in Europe (Lada Automobile GmbH Deutschland) now plans to turn its attention to the vehicles of Chinese brands BAIC and JAC.

The reason for the leaving the market by Russian brand is not political sanctions or the consequences of the pandemic. It is all about the stricter regulatory requirements of European law on the amount of harmful emissions from cars, equipped with internal combustion engines.

In accordance with the requirements, established in the EU (Euro 6d-TEMP), the emissions of carbon dioxide should be no more than 95 g / km. In fact, this means that motor vehicles, equipped with the gasoline engines, should consume no more than 4.09 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers.

The experts note that Lada models did not even come closer to meeting these standards.

In 2017, the experts of the German club ADAC checked the Lada Vesta car and found a violation not only of the specification, established by Europeans, but also of those standards that were spelled out in the passports of the cars. Instead of emissions of 138 g / km, the car showed emissions of 193 g / km. The indicators exceeded the maximum permissible level more than twice.

Car market experts note that Lada cars do not have models that would reduce the average value of emissions. This could be done by means of thehybrid and electric motors, as well as by the technological reduction of gasoline consumption. The created hybrids of the Kalina and Grant models remained at the level of prototypes, and the EL Lada, equipped with an electric motor, was produced in a limited series.

There is an opinion that the brand’s leaving the EU market is the result of the implementation of the strategy of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi concern, which is the actual owner of AvtoVAZ production.

The European market is actually assigned to the models of the Renault brand, while other members of the alliance can only “clone” cars of this brand. Moreover, AvtoVAZ representatives themselves consider the adaptation of Lada models to European realities economically inexpedient, since the market share of Russian cars in the EU is negligible (0.1%). Moreover, despite the favorable cost of Vesta cars in the basic configuration for Europeans (ˆ 12,490), it still exceeds the cost of a Dacia Duster car, which is popular with consumers (ˆ 11,790).
