IN BELGIUM, THERE IS AN INCREASE IN BANKRUPTCIES
In June 2022, 1,082 bankruptcy cases were registered by economic courts, which is 14.7% more than in May. Statbel, the statistical office of Belgium, also publishes a detailed report with the main changes in monthly data on bankruptcies.

According to the report, the number of registered bankruptcies in June 2022 is higher compared to the same month in 2021 (+75.9%), in 2020 (+61.5%) and in 2019 (+6.7%). In fact, this is the highest number of bankruptcies since September 2019, which also amounted to 1,082.

In some regions, the number of bankruptcies is also higher compared to May 2022, June 2021 and June 2020. Only in the Flemish region, this number (612) also increased compared to June 2019 (+39.7%).

The number of bankruptcies registered in June 2022 increased in all sectors compared to May 2022.

The strongest increase in the number of bankruptcies was registered in the following three sectors:

  • from 162 to 209 in the service sector (+47), where it is necessary to return to October 2013 to find a similar indicator;
  • from 55 to 78 in transportation and storage (+23), which is the highest number of bankruptcies since 2000 (the beginning of the data series);
  • from 211 to 229 in the construction sector (+18), which is the highest since September 2013 (239).

According to Euler Hermes analysts, after two years of decline, insolvency worldwide will increase by 15% in 2022.

Thus, in France, growth is expected by a quarter, and in Belgium, thanks to numerous measures of state support, a more moderate growth is expected (by 10%).
