EX-HEADS OF "LESBANK" AND "MEZHTOPENERGOBANK" BROUGHT TO JUSTICE FOR 4 BILLION
EX-HEADS OF "LESBANK" AND "MEZHTOPENERGOBANK" BROUGHT TO JUSTICE FOR 4 BILLION
The subsidiary responsibility of the two former heads of the bankrupt banks was confirmed by the cassation. The lawsuit against Yuri Shutov (ex-head of Mezhtopenergobank) and former top managers of Lesbank was previously filed by the DIA Corporation, acting as a bankruptcy trustee of credit institutions. Recently, the relevant verdict was published by the Arbitration Court of the Moscow District.
According to the case file (no. A40-137960/2017), Yuri Shutov will be obliged to pay about 2.5 billion rubles. The reason for the responsibility of the former chairman of the management Board was his managerial decisions. In particular, Shutov's signatures are on the documents on the placement of the bank's funds in low-quality assets. This, in addition to the active issuance of loans to one-day firms in 2017, caused the bank to withdraw its license.
Shutov himself managed to leave the country before the start of the financial investigation.
Later, law enforcement agencies initiated several criminal cases against the banker under Articles 159 and 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. He is accused of embezzlement of funds and fraudulent actions committed on a large scale. Since 2020, Shutov has been on the international wanted list.
Lesbank was stripped of its license in 2015. The regulator decided to do this for similar reasons. The organization pursued an excessively risky credit policy, and its transit operations raised doubts among the employees of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
The main beneficiary of the bank and its former head Stanislav Grigoriev, according to the accusing party, stole about 50 million rubles from the bank using fictitious documents. In addition to him, the chairman of the management Board Sergey Nikitin, as well as Nikolai Mamiof and Egor Kamardin (headed the lending department at the bank) fell under subsidiary responsibility.
It is assumed that the total amount of payments that will be collected from the heads of the credit institution may reach 1.5 billion. The exact amount remains to be determined after all debt payments are completed.
