The pressure of economic sanctions on Russian business has led to an increase in the number of structural liquidations in the country. Such data were obtained by FinExpertiza analysts who presented the results of their calculations over the past four months.

In total, as the results of the study show, more than 113.5 thousand firms have stopped working in the Russian Federation. This figure is 17.5% higher than the figure for the closure of companies presented for the same period in 2021.

Economic sanctions, experts say, forced the owners of 16.5 thousand companies (14.5% of the total) to declare voluntary liquidation. At the same time, about 2.5 thousand of them were closed in the bankruptcy process, and another 1.6 thousand (1.4%) were reorganized.

The main part of the companies, as noted in the study, stopped working by the decision of the tax authorities. Organizations (their share is 68.7%) were removed from the Unified State Register of Legal Entities due to providing false information about their location or the composition of participants. Some part (16.7%) were simply "abandoned", having stopped submitting reports to the Federal Tax Service and not carrying out business operations. They were also closed as inactive.

The researchers note that the increase in the number of liquidations was not related to the constancy of business in the number of new registrations of legal entities. Their number (78.6 thousand) almost coincided with the same data for last year. Thus, the ratio of the number of open organizations to the number of closed ones is 69.2%.

Experts note that the liquidation of a business is a long process. Along with the economic reasons forcing companies to close, one of the factors of the increase in the number of liquidated legal entities may be the activities of the Federal Tax Service, whose employees are more actively engaged in cleaning the registry of ghost firms.
