NAVALNY SAYS HE IS BEING TORTURED IN PRISON THROUGH SLEEP DEPRIVATION
Politician Alexei Navalny, who is serving his sentence in prison, criticized the conditions of his detention. He states that, despite the health complaints, a doctor is not allowed to see him, the medicines recommended by a specialist are not given to him and that he is being tortured through “sleep deprivation”.

According to Alexei's wife, Yulia Navalnaya, health problems began at the time of his stay in the remand prison, but her husband asked not to show this off. Then a doctor, ready to come and examine the patient, was found, but the administration of prison did not allow this. What is more, according to Yulia, her husband was not even given a paper describing exercises for the back that could ease the pain.

In prison, the oppositionist was examined by a doctor, who did not tell him the diagnosis, saying that he would indicate this information in the convict's medical record. As a treatment, Ibuprofen in the form of pills and ointment was prescribed.

Alexei himself regarded this state of affairs as bullying and demanded the realization of his right to medical care.

What is more, the activist complained about the "torture through sleep deprivation", applied to him. He called his registration as "prone to escape" having no legal grounds and said that because of this, he was not allowed to sleep.

During the night, the convict is visited 8 times by an employee of the colony, who turns on the Dozor system, shoots Navalny on camera and pronounces his actions aloud. Such measures wake up the activist each time and deprive him of the right to an uninterrupted eight-hour sleep.

In February of this year, Alexei Navalny was sentenced to imprisonment, after which he has been transferred to a correctional colony near the town of Pokrov, Vladimir Region, where he is serving his sentence now. Alexey and his supporters consider the verdict illegal and politically motivated.
