TEACHERS CAN BE PROVIDED WITH A PREFERENTIAL MORTGAGE

By November 1, 2024, the Ministry of Education of Russia is going to work out the possibility of introducing preferential mortgages for teachers. State Duma deputies suggest that teachers will be able to receive loans for the purchase of housing at 2% for up to 30 years.

The professional community welcomed the preparation of the program, Izvestia writes, but noted that the development of the social housing market could be more effective. Such a measure would contribute to maintaining the labor mobility of teachers.

Earlier, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education, Yana Lantratova, asked the Ministry of Education about the need to introduce a preferential mortgage program for teachers. In her appeal, she cited data from the Ministry of Education, according to which 198,000 teachers joined Russian schools in the 2022/2023 academic year, but about 193.5 thousand teachers left during the same period. Most of them are voluntary.

Yana Lantratova noted that the retention of young professionals in the teaching profession is one of the main tasks of the national education system. In her opinion, thanks to the introduction of a teacher's mortgage, it can help to accomplish this task. It will be an effective way to improve the quality of life of Russian teachers and their family members.
