THE CENTRAL BANK: COMPANIES HAVE INCREASED DEMAND FOR LOANS
Last month, the demand for loans from legal entities increased, the banking sector portfolio grew by 1.8% in March, the Bank of Russia said.

The central bank also clarified that loans were taken mainly by oil and gas, transport and construction organizations. One of the reasons for the increase in demand is the need to pay large taxes, such as income tax and additional income tax for 2023, VAT for the fourth quarter of 2023. Companies took out loans in rubles more often (+2%). The dispute on foreign currency loans increased slightly (+0.5%).

The share of consumer loans also increased by almost 2% in March, compared with an increase of 0.9% in February. The volume of the portfolio reached 14.1 trillion rubles. The regulator believes that high consumer activity may indicate confidence in future incomes, given the situation in the labor market.

Mortgages increased by 1.2% (0.8% in February). In March, 447 billion rubles were issued, 326 billion rubles of which are mortgages with state support, which are not affected by high market rates.

The most popular mortgage program remains the "Family Mortgage". Its disbursements doubled in March to 169 billion rubles.

The active inflow of citizens' funds to banks also remained (+0.9 trillion rubles). The regulator attributes this to an increase in household incomes and high deposit rates.
