THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE WANTS TO OBLIGE BANKS TO SPECIFY THE CLIENT'S RESIDENCE BY GEOLOCATION
THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE WANTS TO OBLIGE BANKS TO SPECIFY THE CLIENT'S RESIDENCE BY GEOLOCATION
The Ministry of Finance has developed a draft government decree that obliges banks to check the tax residency of customers by geolocation. This is reported by Izvestia.
As the authors of the initiative explained, the location will be monitored when entering the online bank. If it turns out that a citizen lives abroad, the bank will have to request proof of residence from him and transfer the data to the tax service. However, due to the use of VPNs and proxy servers, geolocation may not be determined correctly. In addition, a significant number of clients may, in principle, be prohibited from accessing such information.
At the same time, if the client does not confirm the status, the credit institution will be able to unilaterally terminate the contract with him.
As noted in the Federal Tax Service and the Ministry of Finance, the proposed idea requires discussion. At the moment, there are no exact solutions to this issue.
